Platelet-Rich Plasma: What is it? And does it work?

woman-918614_1280

Platelet-rich plasma. Sounds so exotic, doesn’t it? And, yet, it couldn’t be more natural. It is derived from your own blood, so it’s safe as well as effective. Because platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, stimulates and speeds healing, it amazingly versatile. Here at Be CLINICAL we use it to enhance results of several different types of treatments for both women and men.

What Exactly Is PRP?

Platelets are one of the components of blood. They contain specialized growth factors whose purpose is to trigger the healing process in bones or soft tissue when we become injured in some way. PRP is simply a serum-like concentration of these valuable growth factors.

To produce the platelet-rich plasma, we will take a bit of your blood at the beginning of your appointment. The blood sample is then spun in a centrifuge, which separates the platelets from red and white blood cells. This process takes very little time. We can then use the resulting serum as indicated for your specific procedure. Usually PRP is injected at carefully targeted sites, although in some instances it can be used as a topical application.

Here at Be CLINICAL, we use the EmCyte® system to produce PRP. This latest advanced system delivers the ideal composition and concentration of regenerative platelets, without potential contaminants, to both repair cells and stimulate new cell growth. Because platelet-rich plasma is derived solely from your own blood, there is never a worry about allergic reaction or rejection.

At Be CLINICAL, we use PRP for:

  • Skin rejuvenation treatments that aim to improve the appearance of acne scars or stretch marks well as fine and deep wrinkles on the cheeks and mid-face, around the eyes, on the neck, jawline, chest or décolletage, arms, or the backs of hands. Platelet-rich plasma is particularly valuable when used as a topical application in conjunction with microneedling. As the tiny surgical needles prick the skin’s surface (to a depth custom-tailored to your specific needs), the PRP is deposited down below the surface where it can immediately get to work promoting healing and new cell production.

  • Hair restoration in men and women, helping patients enjoy a fuller, more youthful head of hair by reversing hair loss or thinning.

  • Boosting sexual health and confidence in both women and men. For women, our PRP Ladies Intimate Shot Treatment can help tighten the vagina, improve lubrication, and also address urinary incontinence. Our PRP Male Performance Shot Treatment offers penile rejuvenation for guys who suffer from erectile dysfunction due to nerve degeneration or loss of blood vessel integrity, and who haven’t been happy with results from other ED treatments.

  • Faster recovery for weekend warriors who experience chronic or acute muscle or ligament injuries. (In fact, PRP was first used by orthopedic surgeons to speed healing in professional athletes, either post-surgery or for muscle and joint injuries.)

How Does PRP Work?

Our physicians at Be CLINICAL understand in detail the interrelationships between our physical health, our appearance, and our emotional well-being. That’s why we take a holistic approach to each patient’s care. Incorporating PRP into aesthetic and restorative procedures to achieve greater results is just one example.

You don’t have to be injured or have surgery to enjoy the benefits of platelet-rich plasma. When we inject PRP, the platelets perform just as they would if delivered to the injection site by your normal blood flow. However, because the PRP is concentrated, it delivers far more platelets and growth factors to the site, increasing both speed and effectiveness of healing.
